Kristine's Story
Kristine's Story
My name is Kristine. I was referred to Suited to Success by an Occupational Therapist working with me from CRS (Commonwealth Rehabilitative Service) who was assisting me to return to the workforce. Suited to Success's boutique suiting, interview coaching and Professional Women's Group (PWG) have helped me in coping with all the issues and changes that come with starting a full-time job. The sharing of perspectives and information that they provide has inspired and encouraged me managing my return to the workforce.
The day before I had a job interview I had an appointment at Suited to Success. The time spent at Suited to Success assisting my preparation for the interview really helped to calm my nerves. Getting a great outfit that portrayed the kind of professional image I wanted to project allowed me to feel both confident and comfortable; ultimately boosting my self-esteem. The Suited to Success ladies helping me on the day made me feel good about the interview the next day. I was excited in a nervous sort of a way. My self-belief was bolstered more than when I first found out about the interview.
My interview was successful. I got the job. I was very grateful that I had secured a full-time job except that it didn't turn out to be suitable for my family circumstances. Later, attending a PWG meeting that a lady called Cynthia May spoke at, I was inspired to take proactive steps to take responsibility for my circumstances, to change my situation. I sought alternative work with employers that could offer me the kind of flexibility and spread of hours that enabled me to maintain my on-going health requirements and meet my family obligations. Now I have found a full-time role that ticks all my important boxes and I am very happy with my current position. I am now a proud member of the Australian Public Service; my current role is "Training Support Officer".
If I could go back, and say something to myself before I gained employment, I would say “Love yourself enough to want more; to want what's best for you. Have the courage to go back out and find something else that is going to be fulfilling and tick all your boxes”. The main thing I have learnt from my journey in gaining employment is success is not just about getting a job. Being unhappy in a job that is not suitable is not success. Persist. Love yourself enough to make your happiness important. Courage is the price that life exacts for granting peace.
